Learning objectives
This course provides guidance to perform applied econometric analysis, offering the training necessary to analyze economic data, to interpret them and to measure the relationships suggested by economic theories in different fields such as Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, and Finance . During the course the basic elements of econometric analysis will be reviewed but the emphasis will be placed on applications and model building. Students will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for the analysis of economic data, as well as the interpretation and discussion of the results. Group work will complement individual study for this purpose.
At the end of the course the student will be to independently conduct reliable empirical analysis, from the data collection step, to the descriptive analysis and up to the identification of the main relationships between the variables of interest.

1) Introduction to R
2) Linear regressions for cross-sectional data and time series: least squares (OLS, WLS) and diagnostic tests (heteroskedasticity, autocorrelation, structural breaks)
• Empirical applications in R: Capital asset pricing model; Consumption function; Phillips curve; International trade and economic growth
3) Nonlinear relationships and binary dependent variables
• Empirical applications in R: Cobb-Douglas production function; Recession analysis
4) Endogeneity and instrumental variables
• Empirical applications in R: Supply and demand curves
5) Regressions on panel data
• Empirical applications in R: Tariffs and international trade; Corporate finance models
6) Introduction to economic forecasting
• Empirical applications in R: Probabilistic forecasts of a stock market index via Monte Carlo simulation

Didactic methods
The course consists of 16 lectures, each lasting three hours, corresponding to 6 CFU.
The materials distributed during the course (slides, software commands, whiteboard notes) are the reference source for studying the topics covered.
Recordings of the lectures will be available on the course's Moodle page.

Learning assessment procedures
• Report to be prepared at home (weight 70%)
• Written test (weight 30%)
The written test lasts 45 minutes and requires the interpretation and commentary of the results provided in the questions (no software commands will be required).
Evaluation criteria
The final evaluation is based on the ability to appropriately apply econometric methodologies to the economic problems addressed and to correctly interpret the results.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The final grade is the average of the grades for the take-home assignment and the written test, weighted 70% and 30% of the total, respectively.
