Learning objectives

The main aim of the course of private law is to give students an adequate knowledge of the legal system governing relations among individuals and institutions, which act on an equal footing. The main issues of private law will be covered in class, also through classroom discussions on some case studies drawn from recent case law and through examples dealing with daily life. At the end of the course, students will be provided with a clear and concrete knowledge of the fundamental institutions of private law and with the specific terminology of the subject. Moreover, students will acquire knowledge on the rules and fundamental notions of private law, they will be able to understand the principles at the basis of different norms and they will know how to elaborate legal reasoning and apply it to practical cases.

Didactic methods

The teaching, which takes place mainly through face-to-face lectures, makes use of slides with an explanatory and simplifying function of the subject and numerous examples taken from everyday life. In addition, the analysis of recent case law is proposed, also through the active involvement of students present in the classroom, and an introduction to the knowledge and use of legal databases.

Learning assessment procedures

The exam is oral
During the course, however, there will be an intermediate exam, optional for the student, consisting of a multiple-choise test, about the program carried out in class until that time.
The test consists of 30 multiple-choice questions to be carried out in 35 minutes and it will be considered passed with at least 20 exact answers.
Passing this exam implies that the student, in the oral interview, will not be asked specific questions about the topics covered by the test.
The passing of the intermediate test has only value in the summer and autumn exam sessions following the end of the course.
The modalities of the examination do not differ between attending and non-attending students.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The examination aims to ascertain the level of knowledge of the subject matter achieved by the student, the ability to organize and articulate a discourse, the ability to reason critically and the quality of exposition considering the mastery of legal terminology.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The final grade is expressed in thirtieths and is the result of the oral examination. The outcome of the midterm, on the other hand, is expressed in terms of "approved/not approved" and does not average, but only excludes the part covered by the test (if approved) from the oral examination.
