Learning objectives

The course is included in the learning area on Law, New Technologies, and Sustainability. It aims at providing students with the advanced knowledge necessary to understand and govern the complex interactions between law, digital development, and new technologies. The course will focus on the relationship between technologies, fundamental rights, and institutional structures, as well as on the effects of the use of technologies on the law of contracts and obligations and civil remedies, in particular in terms of liability of individuals, institutions, and businesses.
At the end of the course, the student will acquire the ability to analyze and understand the two main regulatory dimensions, that is constitutional and private law, on which the phenomenon of technological evolution is grafted and that, moving from different logics, are integrated to complete the legal approach to new technologies related to sustainability, with particular attention to the multi-level and transnational functioning of the law in the contemporary age.
By the end of the course students will acquire understanding of the concept of sustainability as it results from different regulatory perspectives, that integrate, according to multilevel and transnational logics, into the legal approach to sustainability. Students will also be able to solve actual problems using a ‘compliance’ and ‘conflict-preventing’ approach. Work in groups and written assignments based on Problem Based Solving (PBS) methods will provide students with the ability to assess the implications of the regulatory framework, develop appropriate reasoning and terminology, and formulate independent judgments. The teaching method is aimed at improving continuous learning skills.

Prerequisites and basic notions

A prerequisite for attending the course is the knowledge of the basic notions of private with special regard to legal subjective rights, contract and obligation law, tort law. These notions will be resumed by the teacher at the beginning of the course.
