Learning objectives

The teaching module aims to provide the student with the main principles of chemistry of the living matter, the biological processes at the molecular level, the structure, properties and functionalities of biomolecules and to deepen elements of bacteriology and virology.
The purpose of this teaching module is to provide the student with the knowledge and understanding of:
- Physiological and pathological processes related to the state of health and disease of individuals at different ages of life.
- Morphology, structure and bacterial cell functioning, composition and architecture of bacteria and virus particles, features of the main bacteria and viruses.
- Direct and indirect microbiological diagnosis of viral and bacterial infections, collection and storage of samples for microbiological investigations.
- Identify the features of microorganisms and the most important analytical tools used to identify their presence in environmental and biological matrices.
- Identify the anatomical structure of body districts (organs, bones, muscles, joints, vessels, nerves) that represent the main targets of occupational and environmental risk factors.
- Identify the major patterns of functioning of body districts (organs, bones, muscles, joints, vessels, nerves) that represent the main targets of occupational and environmental risk factors..

Prerequisites and basic notions

Basic knowledge of general and organic chemistry

Learning assessment procedures

To pass the exam, the students are required to demonstrate:
- Understanding of the principles underlying the structure-function relationships of the main classes of biological macromolecules, metabolic regulation at the molecular level and energy transformations of biochemical processes.
- Knowledge of the structural organization of the human body under healthy conditions and the essential morphological characteristics of the systems, organs, tissues, cells, subcellular structures, as well as their key morphological and functional correlates.
- Knowledge of the composition and architecture of the different MO and the either positive or harmful interactions between microorganism and environment and between microorganism and man.
- Capacity to explain the techniques of sampling and storing of samples for microbiological testing.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The final grade is calculated from the average of the profits obtained in the four modules of the course, which each have a weight of 2 CFU.
