PLEASE NOTE: In order to be admitted to any teaching activities, including those of your choice, you must be enrolled in the academic year in which the activities in question are offered. Students who are about to graduate in the December and April sessions are therefore advised NOT to undertake extracurricular activities in the new academic year in which they are not enrolled, as these graduation sessions are valid for students enrolled in the previous academic year. Program
The course will study certain emblematic figures of the gesture of 'giving the word' (in English we usually say "giving the floor", but in Italian and French the same situation is described as if we were giving "the word" instead of "the floor"). Very different figures, such as "giving the word to animals" of certain medieval trials against pigs or horses, which were provided with lawyers to defend them from the accusations; "giving the word to madness" of twentieth-century psychiatry, which intended to give the insane a voice that had been denied by medical practice and knowledge; "giving the word to nature", as contemporary ecology attempts to realise through the idea of a "parliament of beings", in which not only human beings would legislate on nature, but also vice versa. Finally, we will speak of that gesture that is only apparently symmetrical and complementary to the first one, which is that of 'taking the word'.
Bibliography
Didactic methods
Courses will be mainly in presence but with ample space for discussion and interaction. Lectures will be video-recorded and made available without a deadline on Moodle. They will not be streamed.
Learning assessment procedures
Students attending the classes will receive frontal lessons which will address the textes in the form of a comment, an elaboration, an extension of their content. The individual study of the bibliography will be a fundamental part of the preparation of the final exam. Meeting hours for students are scheduled during the whole academic year. Any exception concerning the days and hours of courses and meetings will be communicated though the teacher’s personal webpage. Students who will not attend classes will study the same bibliography.
Evaluation criteria
The oral exam will verify in equal measure the acquired knowledge and the ability to originally elaborate this knowledge.
