Learning outcomes

The objective of the course is to introduce students to the concepts of language change and language variation by examining internal and external processes of change and variation in the English language.

Program

During the course topics related to language change and variation in the English language will be discussed, both at a diachronic and at a synchronic level: aspects linked to the history of the language and to its spread in the world (World Englishes, EIL/ELF), changes and variation influenced by technology.
