The teaching is organized as follows:
Learning outcomes
Module: I MODULO PARTE (I)

knowledge of the stages of the civilization, geographic areas and major historical events of the ancient Near East, knowledge of the main historical sources concerning the periods treated and of the methods for their analysis; knowledge of the main and recent approaches to the study of the ancient Near East and of basic bibliography.
Module: II MODULO PARTE (P)

In depth study of specific sectors of the history of the ancient Near East and relating sources; knowledge of methods for the analysis of the sources, of the related bibliography, and research tools.

Module: I MODULO PARTE (I)

Required: general historical and linguistic competence
Programme: History of Mesopotamia, Syria, the Levant and Anatolia from Neolithic to pre-classical Iron Age
Teaching methods: lectures, guided analysis of documents in translation. Attendance is strongly recommended and students unable to attend are invited to consult the teacher for defining the programme.
Module: II MODULO PARTE (P)

Required: knowledge of the main historical phases and events of the ancient Near East
Programme: Cultural foundations of Mesopotamian civilization. The lessons will concern the elaboration and study of law, and of government and social institutions; the study of the natural world and related methodologies, the ideas concerning the relationships of human being and life with the cosmos.
Bibliography: Details concerning the parts of the above cited texts that will be considered and additional references to primary literature in translation and specific secondary literature will be provided during the lessons.
Teaching methods: lectures, guided analysis of documents in translation. Attendance is strongly recommended and students unable to attend are invited to consult the teacher for defining the programme.
