Academic calendar
The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Learning outcomes
Formative goals:
a) the knowledge of the history of Europe in the Middle ages;
b) competence in the interpretation and in the analysis of the historical settings in which the students live;
c) in the meantime students are directed to improve the methods of historical research guided by the teacher, through the study-case of the abbay of St. Benedict at Polirone (Mantua).

Tipologia dell’attività formativa: base
Formative goals:
a) the knowledge of the history of Europe in the Middle ages;
b) competence in the interpretation and in the analysis of the historical settings in which the students live;
c) in the meantime students are directed to improve the methods of historical research guided by the teacher, through the study-case of the abbay of St. Benedict at Polirone (Mantua).
These goals are pursued:
a) with the study of the book: Breve storia dell’Europa medievale, Bologna, Pàtron, 2012, partially explained during the course.
b) MAIN COURSE:
Mathilde’s abbey: The Millennium of St. Benedict at Polirone
to prepare with notes from the lessons, and the study of the medieval sources introduced to the students during lessons, and available from the teacher.
In adjunction, the students have to read:
L’abbazia di Matilde. Arte e storia in un grande monastero dell’Europa benedettina [San Benedetto Po 1007-2007], a cura di P. Golinelli, Bologna, Pàtron, 2008.
For those who cannot attend lessons is required the reading of:
Storia di San Benedetto Polirone. Le origini (961-1125), a cura di P. GOLINELLI, Bologna, Pàtron, 1998.
