Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to give students the basic understanding of the theory and of the practical aspects of using a robotic system in the operating room. These objectives will be reached by three theoretical and three practical lectures. The first theoretical lecture will aim at giving students the main concepts of robotics and of the main difficulties in using this technology. The second lecture will address the surgical aspects of robotics, with emphasis on minimally invasive interventions. The third theoretical lecture will address methods and tools to simulate a surgical itnervention, from the point of view of intervention planning and training. The proactical lectures will aim at exposing students to the physical interaction with robots and simulators: the first lecture will address the use of a simulator for basic training in robotic surgery, the second lecture will let student use the da Vinci surgical robot, and the thrid lecture will let students test new methods and algorithms.
