Learning outcomes

Students will learn to recognize the recitated and sung metres of ancient Greek poetry, and to analyze the polymetric structures of lyric and dramatic poetry performed between VII and V a.C.

Program

Basics of prosody.
The categories of metres in the ancient sources and in the modern studies.
Analysis of the metrical structure of literary texts.

Educational material will be provided by the teacher.

Examination Methods

Analysis essay on the metrical structure of a lyric text as published in the most recent critical editions.

Students are required to attend at least 2/3 of class sessions.
