Learning outcomes
The laboratory aims to critically analyze the ego-alter dialectic, hosting and foreign countries in multicultural societies. The struggles for recognition gather all the struggles for the claim of equal rights and dignity carried out by social groups that experience conditions of discrimination, inequality and disadvantage. These struggles have experienced an increase and an intensification for the claim of cultural identities, in societies characterized by the coexistence of groups coexisting in the same national territory and which are distinguished by cultural traditions different from those of the host country.
The possibility of implementing reception and integration policies also depends on the cultural climate that is created in the host country as a response to the presence of foreigners on its territory.
Program
In order to critically analyze the ego-alter, host country and foreign, the different defense mechanisms that the host country is implementing will be analyzed. The following topics will therefore be addressed:
- individual identity and national identity
- racism and xenophobia
- security and insecurity
- stereotypes and stigma
- redistribution, recognition.
During the lessons, after a brief introduction to the topics listed above, we will identify the social indicators considered most salient to grasp the ego-alter dynamics, and we will conduct an empirical research, with the aim of highlighting the social dimensions that favor or oppose the cohabitation between social groups with different cultural traditions.
The laboratory is open to a maximum of 30 students.
Frequency is compulsory.
Teaching methods: Lectures (maximum 10) and 26 hours of group work in the classroom.
