Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquire an in-depth knowledge of Hegel's thinking about religion in its systematic articulation, and to apply this knowledge and understanding to interreligious dialogue.
Program
Title: "Eros and Philosophy in Plato's Symposium"
The course examines the figure of Eros and its relationship with philosophical knowledge. The text to be discussed is Plato's Symposium. The multiple "ways" of Eros will be analyzed: its cosmic character, its link to the two Aphrodites (Urania and Pandemos), its demonic nature, its role in the philosophical ascent to the "good itself" (the scala amoris), its correct use in the dialogical practice of Socrates and his incorrect use by Alcibiades, and its sublimation in the virtue of the soul.
TEXT TO BE STUDIED FOR THE ORAL EXAM:
The handouts can be purchased at the copy-shop Ateneo, Lungadige Porta Vittoria, 37.

Examination Methods
Teaching method: The course includes lessons and seminars in which texts will be read and discussed. Attendance is therefore useful, although not mandatory.
For those who do not attend the course the program remains unvaried, but they should contact the teacher to agree on personalized readings (depending on their previous knowledge and interests), which should compensate the non-attendance of the course.
