Learning outcomes
The course aims at offering a diachronic approach to the ancient Greek language, particularly through literary texts (starting from Linear B tablets and the first written records).
The following linguistic aspects are considered:
- phonology
- morphology
- classification of alphabets and dialects (geographically and historically)
- relation between language and literary genres.
At the end of the course Students should be able to recognize and analyze peculiar aspects of the Greek literary dialects, in relation to the different literary genres.
Knowledge of Greek language is mandatory.

Examination Methods
The examination will be in the form of an oral examination.
The examination aims at ascertaining
- the acquisition of the subjects dealt with over the course;
- the ability to translate, interpreting and commenting the texts;
- the ability to reflect and
- analyze some problematic linguistic issues.
The final vote in 30 will reflect the student's knowledge of the three main subjects of the course: 1) reading, translating, and commenting the texts; 2) phonology, morphology, and dialectology; 3) developement in geographical and diachronical terms of the Greek language
