Learning outcomes

Philosophy and Sexual Difference Learning objectives: The course aims to grasp philosophy in light of the difference between men and women, with the underlying assumption that sexual difference means something as far as the mind’s behaviour is concerned. The sexual difference’s theory is a new and original perspective of feminism in contemporary philosophy. At the end of the course, students will be requested to show knowledge, understanding and critical thinking of the presented authors and texts.

Program

The course intends to adress the theoretical and political aspects of sexual difference thinking.
Programme:

. To adress some questions linked to a psychanalytical interpretation of sexual difference thinking, I have proposed Francoise Duroux, "Il paradigma perturbante della differenza sessuale", Mimesis 2021.

. To reflect on the value of desire, wich is the fulcrum of women's political thought, I have included Luisa Muraro, "Al mercato della felicità", Orthotes ed. 2016, in programme.

. To discuss one of the most radical and innovative paths of Italian feminism's theoretical and political thought, I have proposed Libreria delle donne di Milano, "Non credere di avere dei diritti", Rosenberg&Sellier 1987 (This book is available on the book market because it is always re-printed).

Examination Methods

There will be an oral exam both for those who attend the course and those who cannot. Those students who cannot attend must contact the teacher for further information on the points in the programme and decide on an additional text to discuss at the exam.
The purpose of the oral examination will not only be to verify the students' understanding of the topics but also whether they have developed autonomy of judgment and a good capacity of argumentation.
For those who can attend: part of the assessment will depend upon the seminar work carrried out in the second part of the course.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE
