Learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding 1. To know and understand the characteristics of research in educational community settings and the current state of the debate on empirical research in education. 2. To identify the potential and limits of the main methods used for the study of educational processes. 3. To Recognize and address issues related to the validity of qualitative research in an educational and social context. Applying knowledge and understanding 1. Students will be able to analyze critically a research report on educational services, identifying its structure, underlying logic and potential for implementation of the results in an educational and social context. 2. To Identify research areas and build appropriate research questions Within a social and educational working context. 3. To develop a research project within an educational service for youth, adulthood and old.
Program
The course addresses the following content:
- Research on educational phenomena and its epistemological assumptions.
- Reasoning styles in designing and conducting empirical research in education.
- Research design: key features and the construction of a research study.
- Potential and limitations of the main approaches and methods of qualitative research in education,
- The interaction between research and practice in educational services.
The program includes a handbook on research in education and an in-depth study of some research reports that will be available on the Moodle platform.

Examination Methods
The achievement of the goals of knowledge and understanding is assessed through a written test with mixed questions, both multiple choice and open questions on specific methodological concepts presented in the texts.
The achievement of the objectives with regard to the ability to apply knowledge and understanding is assessed in two ways:
1. Open-ended questions of the same test, which may require the students to propose a personal reflection on a theme or a research path proposed by the teacher.
2. The construction of a research project on a topic of the student's choice, according to a template that will be presented during the course and available in the Moodle platform.
