Learning objectives
The course aims to lead students towards understanding the connection between pediatric andrological pathologies and the alteration of fertile potential, both in the clinical and biochemical / molecular fields.
Prerequisites and basic notions
The elective course in "Pediatric Andrology and Fertility Preservation" is proposed for 5th and 6th year students. Therefore, the preliminary knowledge of the teachings of the previous courses is required, with particular reference to Pediatrics and Biochemistry.
Program
The course program includes the discussion of topics related to andrology, a branch of medicine that deals with the male reproductive system and its fertile potential, with an in-depth study of the connection between the pathologies of the pediatric age and reproductive capacity (including sexual health and hormonal status) of adulthood. Clinical data from the literature and direct experience will be reported, such as the evidence that the origin of 50% of pathologies that alter the fertile potential is diagnosable and treatable already in pediatric adolescence and that about one in 3 males suffers from an andrological pathology. The course also includes an in-depth study from a biochemical / molecular point of view of the alterations of the synthesis pathways of male sex hormones and the related signal transduction pathways, in addition to the description of laboratory techniques useful for the study of them through cultures. mobile phones.
