Physiology (2022/2023)
The teaching is organized as follows:
Learning objectives
The aim is to give basic knowledge of human physiology (general and nervous system physiology), as well as general psychology. GENERAL PHYSIOLOGY Know organs functions of the human body based on cells physiology that form the organs, the inte-gration among organs which form the cardiovascular, pulmonary, excretory, digestive systems and main mechanisms of regulation (nervous and humoral) of organs and systems function. PHYSIOLGY OF NERVOUS SYSTEM Know the basic knowledge of the nervous system anatomy, the excitability mechanism of nervous cells and the synaptic transmission, sensory nervous system (somaesthetic and pain, chemical senses, sight, hearing and balance), integrate the knowledge of signals mechanism and nervous regulation with the endocrine mechanism. PSYCHOLOGY Know the theoretical foundation of cognitive abilities to explain the mechanism through which hu-mans can adapt and interact to the external world.
Prerequisites and basic notions
In order to understand the course of Physiology, you must have first assimilated the basic notions of Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Biochemistry and Mathematics, in particular:
• Chemistry: the concept of pH, molarity, osmolarity and pressure osmotic, diffusion;
• Physics: physics of gases, electro-physics, surface tension, Laplace's law, basic notions of mechanics, statics and dynamics of fluids, laws of thermodynamics;
• Biology: biophysical characteristics of the cell membrane, structure of the cell and cell organelles, the genetic code with transcription and translation, protein synthesis, membrane receptors, intracellular signals and second messengers; • Biochemistry: the main metabolic pathways, enzymatic kinetics and mitochondrial enzymes, oxidative phosphorylation;
• Mathematics: concept of logarithm, concepts of Cartesian axes and functions, linear functions, power, exponential; methods of manipulation of logarithms, concepts of derivative and integral; unit of measure of the international system.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The exam will take place in oral form and in the presence of all three teachers of the three courses (Physiology of the Nervous System, General Physiology and Psychology) in the same classroom; at the end of the interview, the teachers will provide a final evaluation, weighted with respect to the credits of the three courses, out of thirty. Each course must be sufficient for the final evaluation.
