Learning objectives
The teaching module aims to provide the student with the basic principles behind the work of the health care assistant and the conceptual bio-psycho-social framework useful to understand the concepts of global health, health determinants and the methods of analysis of healthcare needs with reference to the community and specific at-risk groups of people.
The teaching module aims to give the students the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to understand and analyse:
- The basic fundaments of the role of the health care assistant, the principles defining their area of activity and responsibility in health promotion and in primary and secondary prevention.
- The relationship between local and global referring to culture, society, lifestyles and effects on health determinants.
- Community needs and the epidemiological and socio-cultural factors affecting them.
- The main activities regarding health promotion, prevention and the most important individual risk factors (for example tobacco and smoking, alcohol, obesity, drug abuse) and environmental risk factors with particular reference to indoor and outdoor pollutants.
- The concept of “life skills” (social abilities, cognitive and personal skills) applied to health promotion and education in healthy lifestyles.
- The characteristics of advanced methods and tools used to analyse the health status.
- The “health profile” tool applied to different settings.
- Equality in the answers to people’s health needs which are everyday more and more complex and diversified.
- The meaning of operating by using a systematic approach and from a network perspective: connecting micro to macro environments, connecting actors, professionals and connect resources..
