Learning objectives
At the end of the course the student will be able to identify and distinguish the notions of text genres and textual typologies and will be able to recognize the organizational structure –macrostructure and microstructures– of texts in the field of tourism and international trade. Special attention will also be paid to the translation skills of specialized texts. Furthermore, C2 language level of competence in Spanish (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is also required.
Prerequisites and basic notions
In order to access the exam, a language proficiency at the C2 level is required. The verification of this proficiency is based on certifications issued by the CLA (Language Center of the University) or the Instituto Cervantes (only DELE and with prior equivalence from the CLA listed in the appropriate lists). The certification is a prerequisite for the exam with the instructor for "Variedades del español 1". As specified in the "Regulatory Vademecum for Students of the Area of Foreign Languages and Literatures," the validity of the C2 language certification is three years from the date of achievement.
Program
The course will address, both from a theoretical and practical point of view, the language of tourism and international commerce, with a contrasting approach to Italian. The teaching methods include lectures focused on the following main topics:
- Specialty languages: names, definitions and characteristics
- Specialty languages and linguistic variation
- Neology and word formation
- Text, genre and textual typologies
- Economic language
- The language of tourism

Didactic methods
The teaching methods include lectures as well as group work sessions (cooperative learning).
Supplementary and support teaching materials will be made available on the Moodle platform dedicated to the course. The instructor will be available to clarify any doubts and provide additional bibliographic information to both attending and non-attending students during office hours.
Learning assessment procedures
For attending students:
Continuous assessment: the evaluation will be based on active participation in course initiatives, the presentation of specific topics, the oral presentation of works using computer tools, etc. The final assessment will be based on the evaluations made throughout the entire course and on a written exam consisting of ten questions aimed at assessing specific knowledge on the course topics (lecture notes and the bibliography indicated by the instructor).Please note that this exam is reserved exclusively for attending students, and the syllabus is valid for one academic year, including the January-February session. A language competence at the C2 level is required.

For non-attending students:
The exam consists of a written test that includes ten questions aimed at assessing specific knowledge on the topics covered in the course. Each answer is assigned a score ranging from 0 to 3.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The final grade for the "Variedades del español 1" exam is determined by the outcome of the language skills assessments (C2-CLA) and the evaluation of the official course; all assessments must be sufficient. The final evaluation is expressed in thirtieths.
