Learning objectives

By the end of the course, students will be able to: - master the notions of “norm” and “variation” as sociolinguistic phenomena; - apply them to the analysis of French texts related to professional communication; - show that they have reached linguistic skills in French corresponding to C2 level of CEFR.

Prerequisites and basic notions

French language skills required to pass the exam: C2
The language skills will be verified according to a certificate of CLA (Centro Linguistico d'Ateneo) or of an organization authorized by MIUR.

Program

Linguistic diversity and variation, between oral and written language.
Topics and methods in sociolinguistic research.
Diaphasic and diastratic variation: the so-called "langue des jeunes".
Forms and genres in professional communication, both oral and written.
Linguistic variation in professional communication: prosodic, pragmatic, syntactical and lexical features.
Varieties and functions in written communication: e-mails and CVs as a case in point.
Multilingualism in French companies.

Didactic methods

Lectures, text analysis, case studies.

Learning assessment procedures

Oral interview in French.
Students attending the course will pass a part of the exam (written) in continuous assessment.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The oral interview will test:
- the breadth and completeness of the contents;
- the ability to exemplify;
- clarity.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The final grade will be obtained from the average of the language level converted to /30 based (cf.the "Vademecum normativo per gli studenti dell'Area di Lingue e Letterature Straniere") and that of the oral examination and will be expressed in /30.
