Learning objectives

The course aims to bring students' language and translation skills to an advanced level and to develop their linguistic and metalinguistic reflection through the analysis of sample texts of different types of varieties, including diaphasic varieties, in general and specialised communicative contexts. By the end of the course, students will be able to communicate independently at an advanced level, both written and spoken, in general and specialised communicative contexts.

Prerequisites and basic notions

Requirements to be able to follow the course.
A B2 level of Chinese (HSK 4) is required to be able to follow this course.
Pre-requisite for the final exam:
A C1 level language certificate (Common European Framework of Reference) should be obtained through CLA or through external institutions and validated by the CLA.
The validity of language certificates awarded from October 1 2024 is 3 years from the day it was awarded.

Program

The course aims at consolidating the linguistic-translational skills of the students at an intermediate and advanced level and at enhancing linguistic and metalinguistic reflection through the analysis of texts of the formal variety related to general and specialized communicative contexts. The course therefore aims to expand the vocabulary and linguistic structures in relation to texts belonging to different genres and types of formal texts,with particular attention to formal written language and Chinese language for specific purpose, also from a contrastive perspective.

Didactic methods

Lectures with the support of Power Point presentations. Lessons slides are part of the study materials and will be available for download on the Moodle platform.
Class contents and study materials are the same for students who do not attend classes. Those students are invited to contact the instructor during office hours.
Other teaching materials will be uploaded in the Moodle platform of the course.

Learning assessment procedures

Pre-requisite: C1 level language certificate (Common European Framework of Reference), obtained through CLA or through external institutions and validated by the CLA
Written test of translation (IT-ZH and ZH-IT). [duration: 150 minutes]

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

Theoretical and practical skills in formal and informal Chinese, focusing on professional contexts.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The average mark between the language certification (CLA) and the written exam.
Final grades are measured in thirtieths. The exam is passed with a score of 18/30 or higher.
