The Course analyzes the theoretical and technical aspects of the journalistic text produced and influenced by new media and offers students the minimum and essential tools to analyze and produce digital and multimedia contents (journalistic and informative). The focus of the course is the analysis of the main production models of information, from printed paper to online information. Particular attention is given to the multimedia writing techniques typical of digital information and social networks.

COURSE CONTENT The criteria of journalism: information, news and communication. The general characteristics of digital. --- Technology, multimedia and identity. What changes in relationships and in the way of doing journalism and information with the transition from analog to digital? Internet: history and examples. --- What changes in personal relationships and in the way of doing journalism and information with the transition from analog to digital technology? Internet: history and examples. ---- Representation, communication and journalism with new media: Text, visuality, interactivity, sharing. The characteristics of a multimedia journalistic text: completeness, diversity of languages, interactivity and speed. --- Experiences. The characteristics of a multimedia journalistic text: interactive infographics and visual data journalism Examples of journalistic text in general and multimedia in particular. Principles and tools. Software and online and open source tools. --- Testimonials of a social media journalist. Multimedia Storytelling Journalism - the different forms of multimedia journalism: from online newspapers to blogs and videos. --- Experiences: how to produce a journalistic video storytelling. Journalism and social networks: which ones to use and how to use them. Shared and journalistic management of data and images. First forms of AI applied to journalistic production. ---

Learning assessment procedures
The exam is oral but also requires students to create a multimedia hypertext to be prepared at home by following the instructions and guidelines explained and dealt with in class and in the course materials. This thesis will be discussed during the exam where the knowledge of the theoretical part of the course will also be tested. The final evaluation will therefore take into account a practical part (40%) of a theoretical one (40%) and participation in class (20%) which for non-attending students will be calculated with some additional materials.
