Upon obtaining the 180 credits required by the curriculum, the degree will be awarded. The final exam is worth 6 university credits.

1. Final exam

The final exam consists of writing a thesis, which includes one of the following options:

  •  In-depth study of a topic assigned by the supervisor;
  •  Development of a laboratory project under the guidance of the supervisor.

2. Thesis supervisor

  • Supervisor belonging to an SSD (Scientific Disciplinary Sector) included in the degree programme.
  • Possible supervisors from:
    • University of Verona
    • University of Modena and Reggio Emilia
    • University of Trento

3. Final exam procedure

  • Exam taken in the presence of the Thesis Evaluation Committee composed of two professors, including the thesis supervisor.
  • Possible exam formats:
    • Short written paper (also in English)
    • Oral presentation with slides (PowerPoint, also in English)

In assessing the final exam, the Thesis Evaluation Committee awards the graduate a maximum of 4 points.

The announcement of results is scheduled for the dates indicated in the Academic Calendar.

4. Calculation of the degree mark

The final degree mark is announced during the graduation ceremony and is determined by a special Degree Committee composed of at least three professors belonging to the teaching staff of the degree programme.

  • The final grade is expressed in hundredths, with honours if applicable.
  • Minimum passing grade: 66/110.
  • The admission grade is calculated by comparing the weighted average of the ECTS credits to 110, rounded to the nearest whole number.
  • Maximum increase of 8 points:
    • +4 points for the degree exam assessment
    • +4 points for the curriculum assessment

5. Curriculum assessment

  • Calculation formula:
    • On track: 3.5 + 0.2 * number of honours
    • Off track: 3.5 - 0.5 * number of years off track + 0.1 * number of honours
    • +1 point for every 3 months of Erasmus
    • +2 points for at least 12 CFU credits obtained abroad

 Maximum total increase (thesis + curriculum): 8 points

6. Awarding honours

  • Only possible with a final grade ≥110/110
  • Decision at the discretion of the Degree Committee
  • Requires unanimity of the Committee
