The objectives of the PhD program in Surgical and Cardiovascular Sciences are to provide to the student with
1. skills, both theoretical and experimental, necessary for education in cardiovascular research
2. the tutoring and motivation necessary to ensure investigation efforts are directed to relevant applications both in terms of scientific methods and of public health implications.

Therefore, the goal is to train professionals through research oriented towards academic career achievements, employment in public or private research institutions, or in biomedical technology industry. This objective will be implemented through a process which consists in the development of research projects directly produced by graduate students within the context of interdisciplinary training programs aimed at the creation of new professional profiles. Therefore, the course has the following main objectives: to familiarize the students to the use of general tools and methods of scientific research; to deepen their basic training on the methods and technologies of principles of cardiovascular devices; to provied each student with a solid scientific background and the habit of international comparison in the area of research chosen, also through collaboration with foreign universities.

In order to promote specialized training in surgical and cardiovascular research, the following tracks are currently provided:
1. Cardiovascular Sciences
2. Surgical Oncological Sciences
3. Odontostomatologic Sciences.
