Learning objectives

The course aims to provide students with the basic knowledge and the tools to understand and manage the main institutions of private law that are applied in the sporting environment, both in the individual and collective dimensions, from the recreational and amateur context, to the professional one. In particular, the different sectors of the sports legal system and the relationships that, in various capacities, individuals establish with entities that are part of the system will be examined; legal transactions of professional athletes and contracts governing the economic relationship linked to sports; the civil liability of those who engage in sports activities and that of those involved in the organization that allows said activities to be carried out. Teaching intends to emphasize a casuistic approach. The goal is to make students fully aware of the variety and complexity of private law issues concerning sports activities, which are both crucial for the development and expression of the human personality and relevant from an economic perspective.

Constant consultation of an updated Civil Code and the regulatory texts that will be referred to during the lessons is also recommended .

Didactic methods

The course will consist of both lectures by the teacher, with the constant involvement of the students, and dialogic lessons aimed at the guided and reasoned solution of current cases and legal problems inherent to the topics covered by the course. Furthermore, some advanced training initiatives will be offered to the students (also in the form of seminars and conferences), in which numerous different professionals, academic and otherwise, will be involved.

Learning assessment procedures

The exam consists of a written test (30 multiple choice questions) lasting 40 minutes and a short oral test. For attending students, a slightly differentiated program may be provided which takes into account the activities (including seminars and supplementary ones) carried out during the course. For ERASMUS students, the assessment methods must be agreed with the teachers at the beginning of the lessons.

Evaluation criteria

The final grade, expressed out of thirty, represents the synthesis of the application of the following criteria: - depth and breadth of knowledge gained; - language skills; - analytical and argumentative skills; - capacity for critical reflection.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The outcome of the exam is given by the overall evaluation of the written test and the short oral test taken by the student.
