Training and Research

Guidelines for PhD students

The PhD Course offers a selection of courses and seminars in 3 thematic areas, for a minimum of 12 hours of teaching per year. The training program allows doctoral students to acquire at least 3 credits per year for each thematic area.

Research credits are gained by the PhD student working on the specific research project, by the participation in conferences and workshops, as a speaker or attendee, by tutoring activities, by research visits abroad or in Italy, by publications, and by poster presentations. The activities carried out by the PhD student must be listed in the doctoral candidate's annual report according to the scheme indicated in the following table:

The doctoral candidate admitted to the final defense of their doctoral thesis must have submitted at least one paper in quality of principal author to a scientific journal indexed in SCOPUS/WOS and have attended in at least one national or international conference.

Research visits abroad, to research institutions consistent with the doctoral candidate's research theme, are strongly recommended to promote the development of the doctoral project and entail the allocation of 2 course-related CFUs per month, including 1 CFU for the PhD program and 1 credit for the Doctoral School. Additionally, 6 research CFUs/month are allocated.
