Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide an approach to the history of the Latin language both in the stages of its evolution. The study will be carried out both by means of theoretical lessons, and by linguistic analysis and cultural, as well as historical and literary, analysis of Latin texts.
Program
Teaching deals with the history of the Latin language through its different periods, from the archaic to the late Latin, with a specific focus on some stages of its historical development.
The first part will be held with as number of preliminary lessons about the main chronological stages in the history of the Latin language, with a focus on the different linguistic forms.
The second part will be devoted to an author with special linguistic peculiarities such as Apuleius, with a critical reading od Metamorphoses Book 1.

Oral assessment, directed to verify:
- ability to distinguish the basic features of archaic, classic and late Latin
- knowledge of the most important features of Apuleius' language and style
- ability to understand, translate and interpret Apuleius' text
