Learning outcomes
Knowledge of the most important landmarks in the history of cinema, with particular attention to the Hollywood and European context, and acquisition of a method of analysis of the film. The student must be able to place a film in its historical-cultural context demonstrating not only historical, linguistic and theoretical knowledge, but also the ability to process this knowledge in a well-argued synthesis.
Program
The course aims to address the most important moments, phenomena and currents in the history of cinema from its origins to the present day. In particular, the course will focuses on the authors, theorists and films that have contributed not only to the development of cinematographic language, but also to the formation of the imagination of men and women of the twentieth century will be analyzed.

Susanna (1934), Quarto potere (1941), Roma città aperta (1945), La dolce vita (1960), Fino all'ultimo respiro (1959), Accattone (1961), Il Gattopardo (1965), L'avventura (1960), Mullholland Drive (2003), Babel (2006).

Examination Methods
Written exam: three open questions. The student must demonstrate mastery of the elements of film language, knowledge of the main junctions of film history and the ability to analyze the film texts in the program.
