Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is the acquisition of knowledge and skills aimed at drafting papers in Italian.
Program
PROGRAMME
The course will provide specific competences in order to make students able to write texts in Italian in a proper way.
The course is divided in two parts. The first one will be devoted to the main textual typologies that a University student has to deal with in his academic career. It will focus in particular on:
1. the newspaper article:
- the kinds of articles (report, editorial, review, etc…);
- the structure of the article;
- the language employed by journalists;
2. the academic essay:
- the structure of an academic essay;
- the use of sources and the bibliography;
- the footnotes;
3. the dissertation:
- the bibliographic research and the quotation system;
- the footnotes;
- the table of contents;
- the final bibliography’s compilation.
The second part of the course will be devoted to the short story and the novel, identifying the characteristics of the two genres and focusing on relevant narratological principles (author vs narrator; types of narrator; the focalization; etc…).
TEACHING METHODS
Taught classes. Analysis of meaningful examples of newspaper articles, academic essays, short stories and excerpts from novels written by contemporary writers.
The Moodle will be used to provide students with further teaching materials.

Examination Methods
There will be a final written exam: students will be asked to write a text in Italian choosing to develop one of three given topics. Students are asked to demonstrate their acquisitions with regard to the formal, structural and linguistic characteristics of the analysed textual typologies. They also have to prove to be able to use correctly the Italian language.
Final mark: approved/not approved.
The final exam will be the same for both attending and non-attending students and will be held in presence.
