Learning outcomes

the goal of the course is to analyze the theme of “ideas” in the history of modern philosophy, in particular in the works of Descartes, Locke, Leibniz and Kant.

Content of the lectures: during the lectures I will analyse parts of the following works: Descartes’ Principia philosophiae, Meditationes de prima philosophia and Objectiones doctorum aliquot virorum in praecedentes med. cum responsionibus authoris; Locke’s An Essay concerning Human Understanding; Leibniz’ Meditationes de cognitione, veritate et ideis and Nouveaux essais sur l’entendement humain; Kant’s Logik. I will consider these four authors, which are important for the history of philosophy, for logic and for aesthetics. I will analyse the argument of “ideas”, starting from the historical point of view. I will read and comment the main passages of the works.
