Learning objectives

Aim of the course is transmitting fundamental knowledge on Italian language and its variability: oral and written Language, specific scientific Languages, different textual typologies. Textual competence and abilities on writing will be improved by practice of analysis and production. Student will be able to recognize variability of Italian Language in time, space, medium, context and register, also in relation to learning of foreigner languages; moreover, student will be able to analyze texts in Italian Language and assing them to different textual typologies.

Prerequisites and basic notions

Excellent knowledge of the Italian language and its grammatical and syntactic structures.

Program

The course is divided into a theoretical and a practical part, aimed at strengthening the writing skills of the students.
1. Elements of Italian linguistics: standard Italian and the varieties of Italian; written Italian and spoken Italian; linguistic pragmatics; sectoral languages; the specific registers of the sectoral languages.
2. Writing in Italian at the university: elements of textual linguistics; coherence and cohesion; the text types; syntactic structures and lexical resources suitable for the single types of text.
3. Elements of Italian grammar: the uses of the verb; the connectives; punctuation.
4. Exercises of analysis and textual production: the summary; the email. Materials prepared or selected by the teacher will be made available on the Moodle platform (e.g. slides, exercises, bibliographic additions).
These materials form an integral part of the exam program, for both attending and non-attending students.
NB: students of Italian language courses are bound to their professorship, assigned on the basis of the initial of the surname (AE, FO, or PZ). It is not possible to pass from one chair to another and it is required to take the exam with the assigned teacher.

Didactic methods

Lectures in the classroom (face-to-face mode) and individual exercises, on a voluntary basis.

Learning assessment procedures

The exam will take place in written form. It will be divided into three parts: 1. structured section, with questions relating to topics of a theoretical nature; 2. practical exercises for completion (on the uses of the verb, connectives and punctuation); 3. production of two short written texts, belonging to the typologies discussed in class.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The exam aims to verify the acquisition of some fundamental notions of Italian linguistics and evaluate the writing skills of students according to the criteria of formal correctness, effectiveness, relevance, correspondence to the context.
