Learning objectives
By the end of the course students: – will be familiar with essential concepts of morphology and terminology, especially in the Spanish-speaking context; – will be familiar with the pragmatic and stylistic resources that feature in specialised texts relating to tourism, economics and advertising; – will have learnt textual conventions and strategies and will be able to apply them to the specified fields. Expected Spanish proficiency level is C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Language.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Spanish proficiency level C1 (or higher) is a prerequisite for sitting the final exam; it corresponds to 3 out of 9 CFU awarded by this course. Proficiency level validation is based on certificates issued by CLA (Centro Linguistico di Ateneo) or by Instituto Cervantes (the certificate must be validated by CLA and published in the appropriate list) and it is a requirement for the exam with the lecturer for Lengua española 3. As detailed in "Vademecum normativo per gli studenti dell'Area di Lingue e Letterature Straniere", C1 certificate is valid for five years. Before sitting the final exam students must have passed and registered the following exams (as stated in "Vademecum normativo per gli studenti dell'Area di Lingue e Letterature Straniere"): Lengua española 2 and Literatura española 2/Lengua, literaturas y culturas hispanoamericanas.
IMPORTANT NOTICES: Erasmus students ARE REQUESTED to get in touch with the lecturer at the beginning of the course for further information and for the integration of 3CFU (if applicable).
Program
The course will offer an introduction to the fundamental concepts of morphology, lexicology and terminology with the aim of applying them to the analysis of commercial and touristic texts. Thus, it will be possible to assess certain neological and lexical innovation trends in the Spanish language, and to analyse aspects of lexical creativity within touristic and economic texts.
The teaching materials used during the course form an integral part of the examination programme for students who attend lectures; they will be made available on the Moodle platform. For students who do not attend the lessons on a regular basis, the preparation for the exam will be based on the bibliography for non-attending students and the teaching materials for non-attending students made available on Moodle.
COMPULSORY BIBLIOGRAPHY AND TEACHING MATERIAL FOR THE FINAL EXAM
- a) STUDENTS WHO ATTEND LECTURES (min. 75% attendance, participation will be registered):
- Materials used in class;
- Teaching materials for attending students uploaded on Moodle;
- Compulsory bibliography for attending students available on Leganto.
- b) STUDENTS WHO DO NOT ATTEND LECTURES:
- Teaching materials for non-attending students uploaded on Moodle (they will be added progressively throughout the course);
- Compulsory bibliography for non-attending students available on Leganto.

Didactic methods
Lectures will be frontal and interactive, supported by PowerPoint presentations and audiovisual material. There will also be practical activities based on the analysis of commercial and touristic texts.
There is a syllabus for attending students (min. 75% attendance) and one for non-attending students.
Methods of teaching support:
- Supplementary and support materials will be uploaded to the Moodle platform of the course.
- The lecturer is also available during office hours, which can also be arranged via Zoom if needed.
- Finally, we inform interested students that there is a specific support and tutoring service for inclusion and accessibility, particularly with regard to Language and Literature courses in the French, English, Russian, Spanish and German areas. These activities will be advertised on the Department's webpage.
Learning assessment procedures
The test will have a duration of 75 minutes and will be entirely in Spanish. It will include multiple choice questions, short answer questions, and open questions. Some questions will require metalinguistic competence, morphological segmentation, and the ability to identify phenomena covered during the course and provide appropriate examples. The exam paper will be differentiated according to students' status (attending/non-attending). The use of dictionaries or electronic devices is not allowed during the exam.
Evaluation criteria
The exam will be a written test that will ascertain the depth and breadth of knowledge acquired on the syllabus topics, as well as the correct use of language, terminological precision, and the ability to connect knowledge in a systemic way.
FINAL GRADE COMPOSITION
The final grade out of thirty will be calculated as the arithmetic average between the written exam grade — which must be at least 18/30 — and the language proficiency grade (converted to a score out of thirty according to the guidelines provided in the “Regulatory Handbook for Students of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures”).
