Learning objectives

On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: - describe the basic concepts of grammar; - apply their theoretical knowledge to concrete linguistic data, i.e., analyze German sentences with respect to the so-called "Felderanalyse", the syntactic functions and the other concepts that will be introduced during classes; - appraise the importance of the theoretic framework for the analysis and interpretation of data; - demonstrate to have the German language skills that correspond to the B1 level of the CEFR.

No previous knowledge on the subjects is necessary

Program

"The structure of the German sentence. Introduction to syntactic analysis"
This course introduces the student to the syntactic analysis of German (analysis of syntactic constituents, parts of speech, syntactic functions and relations) with particular reference to the notion of topological fields (aka "Felderanalyse"), which is is specific to the German grammatical tradition.

Classes will be held in Italian

Learning assessment procedures

Written exam. The exam can be taken either in Italian or German and consists of two parts: a first part on basic theoretical concepts (open questions) and a second part of exercises (analysis of both simple and complex sentences).
The exam can be taken only after completion of the B1 level of language competence.
Supplementary bibliographical references will be provided to students who do not attend classes.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The five exercises proposed in the written paper will be assigned 6 points each: total sum, 30 points

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The final mark is determined by the average of the mark achieved in the examination paper with the one achieved in the language proficiency certificate
