PER I LAUREANDI: Si raccomanda ai laureandi delle sessioni di novembre e marzo/aprile di NON svolgere attività extracurriculari (ambito D/F) del nuovo anno accademico, essendo tali sessioni di laurea riferite all'anno accademico precedente. Le attività formative svolte in un anno accademico nel quale non si è iscritti, non danno luogo a riconoscimento di CFU.
Esempi:

Learning objectives

The aim of the seminar is the analysis of the current Italian situation and the ambition to contribute to the recognition of the dignity and autonomy of the language of the comic strip-Grapich Novel.

Program

Comics, which originated as a communicative medium at the same time as the cinema, have enjoyed growing success since the end of the 19th century, spanning several generations of readers who have also learned to read the world through talking clouds. First characterised as a comic cultural product, then as an action adventure and finally as a Graphic Novel, with this latest phase it seems to have reached the season of maturity and a completeness of language. The last few years mark the transition from the serial comic book, which was mainly distributed at newsstands, to the book format, which has allowed it to be published in bookshops or distributed on the Internet with the digital version. The comic book-GrapichNovel is more: it dialogues with, inspires and is inspired by cinema, television series, theatre, literature, music and, therefore, connotes itself in contemporary times as a transmedia medium. An expression of an avant-garde that dialogues as much with the elites as with the general public, as melodrama and cinema did and do, the Graphic Novel paradoxically has an advantage over other modern languages that require passive adherence: it asks the reader for active participation induced by the white space between one vignette and the next. A structural, indispensable gap that must be filled by the reader's creativity, otherwise the ‘text’ will not be understood. If this element has always characterised the comic strip, its expression in the Graphic Novels presents other and different characteristics, not always easy to delineate, but which connote its existence: the disappearance of seriality and especially of the long epics of popular heroes, in the light instead of a single episodicity or at any rate reduced to a dimension of a few albums; the pre-eminence of the Author, often of the complete Author who signs scripts and drawings together and who becomes, almost more than the title, a reference for the reader; the search for more complex graphic expedients, sometimes experimental, other times simplified towards almost naïve illustrations where the content, the story, intimism, reflection predominate. The legacy of the tradition of popular, serial, comic, action and adventure comics, long popularised through newsstands, and the ways or strategies through which this tradition can interact with the new distribution channels, the book format and that narrative form of romance that is originally Italian, remain to be assessed and explored. The aim of the seminar is the analysis of the current Italian situation and the ambition to contribute to the recognition of the dignity and autonomy of the language of the comic strip-GrapichNovel. On the afternoon of Thursday 21 November, a Preview, a round table discussion with the involvement of some of Verona's authors, is planned.
