The course introduces the different designs of social research, explaining the typical phases, the survey techniques, the collection / detection / co-construction of data and information, data analysis (basic descriptive statistics) and information (qualitative content analysis), the meaning of research in the areas of social work.
Lessons program
1. Paradigms of social research.
2. Quantitative research (approaches, theories, investigation techniques).
3. Qualitative research (approaches, theories, investigation techniques).
4. Research applications to some issues of social work.
5. On line research: tools, potential, limits.

Didactic methods
Lessons take place face to face. Practical activities will be proposed on the use of the main survey techniques as well as plenary discussions on research designs of a qualitative and quantitative environment and comparisons on the most appropriate choices for the analysis of different phenomena or social problems . For some specific topics, the teacher will provide study and / or in-depth study materials.
Lectures will take place in presence, will not be recorded and will not be delivered via streaming. All materials used in the lectures will be made available in the Moodle space of the course.
As resolved by the College of Social Work, in the event of a proven Covid positive and relative inability to travel and be present in the classroom, I invite students to contact me in good time to activate the distance connection.
Students in particular situations of fragility, unable to attend lessons due to disability conditions or particularly disabling learning disorders, are invited to contact the "Inclusion and Accessibility Service", which will assess on a case-by-case basis the actual impossibility of attendance and agree with the lecturers concerned on the means of support.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam is written, in Italian, and consists of questions with open and closed answers relating to the topics of the lessons and the texts indicated in the program. The exam lasts 60 minutes.
Evaluation criteria
Understanding of the main concepts addressed in the course; clarity of presentation;
competence in the use of methodological language;
coherence of the answer with the question;
the ability to critically analyze methodological choices;
the ability to propose research strategies suitable for a real case.
