Learning outcomes
The course of Comparative Grammar of the Indo-European Languages describes the history, the main aspects and projects of the meta-language of the linguistics in the history of both ancient and modern Indo-European Languages. Particular attention will be given to individual aspects of the meta-language in the classical languages.
Program
The course of Comparative Grammar describes the main aspects of the meta-language as a human ability to reflect on language systems. Different aspects and functions of the meta-language of linguistics will be investigated in the context of word formation in general and in grammars. The teaching is closely linked by its content as well as with curricula focused specifically on Latin and Greek, both also with the master course in Historical Linguistics and the study of modern Indo-European languages.
Examination Methods
Oral exam at the end of the course and presentation of a paper during the course; for working students a written assignment on a topic chosen with the help of the lecturer.
