Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to give students an in-depth knowledge of some economic variables that have played a key role in macroeconomic trends and, more specifically, monetary ones since 2008.
The teaching style of the course facilitates the interface between the results of theoretical and empirical research and the problems of current monetary policy.
The focus of the course is to build a road map for understanding the European crisis. To this end, we will introduce a set of tools (open economy, the real exchange rate, public debt sustainability) and conclude with an analysis of the European crisis.
At the same time there will be, during classes, references and examples also to economic trends in the US, Japan, the UK, the BRIC and developing countries.
