Learning outcomes
The neurosurgical teaching is aimed to provide the students with the clinical knowledge and treatment principles related to the main neurosurgical diseases, both cranial and spinal.
At the end of the course, the student is expected to be independent in acquiring and present all relevant clinical data, performing a tailored neurological examination, and defining the appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic iter of the neurosurgical patient.

Head trauma (physiopathology of intracranial hypertension, Glasgow Coma Scale, Glasgow Outcome Scale, extradural and subdural hematoma)
Spinal trauma (physiopathology of spinal cord injury, spinal shock, ASIA scale, incomplete spinal cord syndromes)
Brain hemorrhage
Subarachnoid hemorrhage (post-traumatic and secondary to aneurysm rupture)
Intracranial and spinal tumors
Adult and pediatric hydrocephalus
Degenerative spine conditions
Congenital malformations (Chiari malformations, spinal dysraphisms)

Examination Methods
The exam will be either oral or through multiple choice written test. Questions will mainly address the topics of the frontal lessons but could include any of the topics in the Program. The exam is aimed to assess the knowledge of the theoretical principles and their applications in the clinical neurosurgical practice.
Please refer to the description of the Neurology exam with regards to the relative weight of the neurosurgical assessment in the final evaluation.
