Learning objectives

At the end of the course, the student must have acquired the following knowledge in the field of diseases of the oral mucosa, soft tissues, salivary glands and jaw bones: - know the main biological, genetic and molecular processes underlying the development of diseases, integrating the pathophysiological and pathological study with clinical methodology; - be able to perform a patient examination: take a correct history, perform the oral examination of the oral cavity; - be able to: recognize conditions that deviate from normality, recognize characteristic lesions, follow a correct reasoning that allows to request or perform procedures to diagnose the main morbid framework or, if necessary, to consult another specialist; - know and register diseases according to the classifications accepted by the international community; - know the drugs directly and indirectly related to the therapy of these diseases and understand the impact of pharmacological therapy of systemic diseases on dental therapies; - be able to: administer appropriate therapies (or refer to other professionals as necessary), correctly recognize and treat oral manifestations of systemic or psychiatric diseases (or refer to other professionals as necessary); assess the patient's general health status and the interrelationships between other diseases and diseases of the oral cavity and adjust the dental treatment plan accordingly; prioritize treatment according to needs; - be able to: carry out screening and early detection of oral diseases, including cancer; - be able to: develop an interdisciplinary approach to the clinical case, also and especially in collaboration with other members of the health team, deepening the knowledge of the rules and dynamics that characterize the work of the health professionals group. PRACTICAL ACTIVITY IN ODONTOSTOMATOLOGICAL CLINIC MODULE Educational objectives. The student must acquire the necessary skills for correct identification and possible treatment of the most common benign and malignant pathologies that may affect soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. These skills must also be used for primary and secondary preventive purposes. In particular, you will be required to: - take an adequate history with special attention also to behavioral and drug therapies - perform an adequate clinical examination of the oral cavity - know and interpret the main diagnostic methods available (ultrasound, CT, MRI, needle aspiration, biopsy, cytological examination, histological examination) - establish a treatment plan, whether medical or surgical PRACTICAL ACTIVITY IN PREVENTIVE AND COMMUNITY DENTISTRY MODULE Learning objectives. The student must be able to identify the risk factors from the point of view of primary prevention of caries pathology, periodontal pathology, oncological pathology and bisphosphonate osteonecrosis by taking an adequate history. The student must also recognize early lesions in oral cancers or precancerous lesions, caries and periodontal pathologies from a secondary prevention perspective. ODONTOSTOMATOLOGICAL CLINICAL MODULE Pedagogical objectives. The course aims to critically train the student in the knowledge of the anatomical structures of the oral cavity, the main etiopathogenetic mechanisms of pathologies of odontostomatological interest as a result of infections, inflammations, autoimmune reactions, preneoplastic diseases, benign and malignant tumors). The course will enable the acquisition of knowledge of the clinical, laboratory and instrumental manifestations of the main pathologies of odontostomatological interest and their systemic correlates. The student will be able to learn the main diagnostic and therapeutic procedures of the main odontostomatological pathologies in the field of oral cavity health maintenance and care.
