Learning objectives

The main aim of the course is providing students with concepts related to databases technologies. In particular, the internal architecture of a database management system, the management of queries and transactions will be described. Moreover, the XML markup language, for modeling semistructured data in the bioinformatics context, will be presented. At the end of the course the student will be able to master knowledge and skills about main concepts related to databases technologies, to semistructured data modeling by means of XML, and to develop applications exploiting databases.
