Learning objectives
At the end of the course, the student must (1) know the linguistic tools needed to read and interpret the scientific literature in their field of rehabilitation; (2) develop and apply reading and comprehension methods; (3) understand the structure of written and oral scientific language; (4) reformulate the contents of their research in a written format.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Good knowledge of English and appropriate medical terminology
Program
Revision of key grammatical structures and lexicon used in scientific writing and oral production including present forms, past forms, future forms and predictions, modal verbs and phrasal verbs used in medical writing and speaking, present perfect forms, conditionals and conjunctions used in writing. In addition, professional profiles/CV, project proposals, scientific reviews and reports and medical practitioner/patient communication is taught in both written and spoken form.

Didactic methods
The lessons consist of a grammar module, a discussion module in pairs or small groups, a real world scenario analysis on key topics and scientific writing module.
Learning assessment procedures
To pass the course, students must complete a written test (grammar/reading comprehension), a short written response to 3 topics chosen by the professor, and a final abstract/paper/presentation on a topic of their choice.
Evaluation criteria
Evaluation is based on the use of the CEFR (quadro comune europeo di riferimento) and a scale of 100 points with a minimim passing score of 75.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The final mark is given on the basis of successful completion of all assigned writing tests.
