Learning objectives

The clinical simulation has the purpose to let the students learn some organizational, technical-practical and relational skills in safe setting. Moreover clinical simulation is aiming at develop in the student the problem solving ability using case method and role-playing . Using clinical simulation may reduce the emotional impact in dealing with patents’ real situation experienced by the nursing students in clinical setting. Also, the clinical simulation offers to the students the opportunity to train and apply theoretical principles to clinical practice. The clinical simulation activity happens in equipped settings, where a tutor or an expert nurse guides a small group of students.

Prerequisites and basic notions

THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE RELEVANT TO THE EXERCISE AND/OR LABORATORY ACQUIRED IN THE CLASSROOM, RECOVERED FROM THE BIBLIOGRAPHY AND THROUGH VIEWING MATERIAL UPLOADED IN MOODLE

Program

- Carry out calculations and know how to read a drug prescription
Part 1: Acquire calculation skills for the correct dosage of drug therapy
Part 2: Know how to read a drug prescription;
- Decision making in patients with heart failure in a stabilized phase;
- Interventions to improve therapeutic adherence and self-care of patients suffering from diabetes mellitus. EXERCISES/SIMULATIONS:
- Venous and capillary sampling technique;
- Position and manage a peripheral venous access and connect it to the infusion line;
- Aspirate and dilute drugs and set up an infusion line;
- Aspirate drugs and perform intramuscular and subcutaneous injection;
- Interventions to improve therapeutic adherence and self-care of BPCO patients;
- Management of the person with stoma;
- Positioning of the nasogastric tube (SNG). Management of Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) and SNG/SND for pharmacological and nutritional administration.

Didactic methods

The laboratory activity takes place in equipped environments or in the classroom, with small groups of students led by a teacher. Based on the type of skill to be developed, practical exercise sessions can be organized with static dummies and high-fidelity simulators; reading sessions, analysis and discussion of cases, situations, therapeutic schemes, bibliographic sources; role-playing with standardized and simulated patient/operator.

Learning assessment procedures

At the end of the course year the teacher will formulate an "approved" rating on the exam report

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

Regular and certified attendance (100% mandatory) of the student at the workshops with any compensation for absences and any gaps in individual skills
