Learning outcomes
The course's three main goals are the following:
1. Development of various skills in the field of General English and Scientific English including: oral competences, dialogues building-up, comprehension, reading and writing;
2. Terminology and healthcare vocabulary
3. Interaction between healthcare providers and patients
Program
THE NURSE
Grammar: The infinitive, personal pronouns: subject, To be: simple present tense; Definite and indefinite articles; the plural; personal pronouns: object.
Vocabulary: The profession of nursing (the nurse’s instruments and job)
THE DOCTOR
Grammar: Adjectives, Demonstrative adjectives and pronouns, possessive adjectives and pronouns, simple present tense, adverbs of frequency.
Vocabulary: Major medical specialties, the doctor’s job, specialists, the doctor’s tools
THE HOSPITAL
Grammar: To have, prepositions of place, the possessive case
Vocabulary: Understanding the daily ward routine, hospitals, hospital divisions, the hospital staff, the hospital room, types of patients.
THE HUMAN BODY
Grammar: Verbs with two complements, the imperative, question words, modal verbs (can, may)
Vocabulary: External body parts, common disorders related to some external parts, some idioms related to the parts of the body, adjectives to describe physical appearance, clothes and personal items.
THE FIVE SENSES
Grammar: -ing form, present continuous tense, prepositions of time, modal verbs (could, might)
Vocabulary: Sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste; Common disorders of senses, Specialists.
BODY SYSTEMS
Grammar: Modal verbs (must, shall), reflexive pronouns, reciprocal pronouns, reflexive verbs, prepositions of movement
Vocabulary: The skeletal system and its related pathologies; The muscular systems and its related pathologies; The nervous system and its related pathologies; The cardiovascular system and its related pathologies; The respiratory and its related pathologies; The immune system and its related pathologies.
