Program
Transfusion and infusion of blood components: management and phases of the process, possible complications with respective therapeutic and monitoring interventions.
Pre- and post-operative nursing care in complex situations:
- in the pre- and post-operative course of pulmonary lobectomy and pneumonectomy surgery: management of pleural drainage and pneumonectomy drainage, post-operative rehabilitation in the direct post-operative period and on return home
- in the pre- and post-operative course of aortocoronary bypass surgery and heart valve replacement: intensive care unit stay, rehabilitation in the direct post-operative period and impact on life at home with an outline of the management of anticoagulant therapy.
- in the pre- and post-operative course of oesophagectomy surgery: short- and long-term needs and comlications and nutrition education.

Didactic methods
Face-to-face lessons associated with guided exercises by the teacher through the use of micro situations (case discussion in collaboration with MED/18), videos and interaction during the lessons with guiding questions using multimedia tools such as Mentimeter.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam is formulated with closed multiple-choice question and through an open question with the administration of a small integrated clinical case with MED/18 Emergency Surgery which evaluates the knowledge and decision-making of the case.
The exam it is organized in 3 blocks, which combine the clinical part with the nursing one. The student passes the block if the two modules are positive. He can apply in one or more blocks of his choice, he keeps the block with a positive result for all five appeals. You can aplly in the educational debt block of your choice within the remaining four sessions.
Evaluation criteria
In order to pass the module, the student must demonstrate that he:
- recognizes and activates the necessary interventions to manage acute and/or critical situations
- recognising and activating the necessary interventions to manage stable situations in the direct post-operative period and at discharge by providing information and instructions
- supervises and monitors the clinical and psychosocial situation of patients, early identifying signs of aggravation of the patient;
- activates decision-making processes on the basis of the patient's condition, the expected outcomes, the impact of the situation on the patient and his family;
- integrates nursing care into the multidisciplinary care project.
