Program • Concept of Mental Health and Mental Illness: the person with mental disorder/distress; • Essential characteristics, purposes and structures of the Department of Mental Health; • The network of services - formal and informal - in which nursing care is provided: territorial area - home, hospitalization area, rehabilitation area. The networks; • The burden of family members of patients with mental disorder: objective and subjective burden • Forms of Prevention in Mental Health and Psychiatry; • The Peculiarities of psychiatric nursing: reception, taking charge, therapeutic continuity and continuity of care, the therapeutic project, follow-up and evaluation of the person's health outcomes, the multi-professional team and the potential of multi-professional work; • The principles of Recovery and Psychoeducation, practical exercise in the classroom • The method of managing a clinical case in Psychiatry; • Analysis of clinical cases relating to the following conditions: - Schizophrenic psychosis, with the presence of delirium and hallucination; - Major depression, - Management of suicide risk according to Ministerial recommendations; - Bipolar disorder in the manic excitement phase; • Assistance in pharmacological treatment: compliance/adherence to pharmacological treatment, patient education methods on drug management; • Metabolic syndrome in patients with psychiatric disorders: objectives/interventions/outcomes • Crisis and Emergency in Mental Health: - Assistance to the person with aggressive acting out and challenging behavior; - Principles of Deeskalation. Evaluation of patient and staff safety.

Didactic methods
The course uses frontal lessons with the use of PowerPoint slides and analysis of clinical cases.
Learning assessment procedures
Written exam with multiple choice questions and 3 short open-ended questions.
Evaluation criteria
The student achieves a positive result if the score is equal to or higher than 18/30.
