Learning outcomes
Goal of the course is to provide students with information concerning mechanisms of action, clinical use, symptoms identification and monitoring of the efficacy of the therapy, major ADRs and use limits and contraindications. We will consider drugs used for therapies of diseases affecting the cardiovascolar, respiratory, digestive, immunological and nervous systems.
The course will allow future nurses to efficiently monitor the efficacy of the therapy and provide informed counseling to patients and their family aimed at reinforcing adhesion to the therapy.
Program
At the end of the course the student will be able to discuss about classification, mechanisms of action, potential limitations and rationale of use of drugs used for therapies in diseases affecting the cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems
Drugs for the cardiovascular system: beta-blockers, anti-RAS agents, cardioactive glycosides and other inotropic agents, drugs for treatment of angina, calcium-antagonists and other vasodilating agents, anticoagulants and antiaggregants, diuretics
Drugs for the respiratory system: brochodilators, mucolytics and anticough, antiinflammatory drugs for lung diseases
Drugs acting on the digestive system: drugs acting on the muscarinic system, drugs for the control of gastric function
Drugs for the control of dyslipidemia and glicemia
Drugs acting on nervous system: local anesthetics, antiepileptics, opioids, benzodiazepines, psychoactive drugs causing addiction and abuse
