Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide the student with basic knowledge and understanding of prevention, protection, promotion and management of health and safety in the workplace.
The student will acquire, also through examples taken from the field, basic knowledge and understanding of the general principles of occupational medicine, risk assessment, health surveillance, suitability assessment, specific legislation, health education, primary, secondary and tertiary prevention, with reference to different types of occupational risk (chemical, physical, biological, ergonomic, organisational and psychosocial, accident) for the health professions. In addition, specific aspects of the protection of women and pregnancy in the workplace will be explored.
Program
1) General principles of Occupational Medicine and prevention in the workplace.
2) General and specific legislation on health and safety at work.
3) The figures and structures for the protection of health and safety at work.
4) The main occupational risks. Work-related diseases and illnesses. Accidents at work.
5) Risk assessment. Health surveillance. Individual susceptibility. Judgement of fitness for work. Information and training in the workplace. Medical-legal obligations.
6) Preventive medicine in health care workers. Chemical, physical, ergonomic, biological, work organisation and psychosocial risk factors.
7) Protection of women and pregnancy in the workplace
