Learning outcomes
It is the aim of this course to understand the basic elements of physiology, pathology, surgery, and bioengineer (i.e. physics, biochemistry, fluid dynamics, and mathematical computational models) of several topics dealing with current adult cardiac surgery practice. More in detail:
1. Physiology, pathology, and surgery for ischemic heart disease, with notions of bioengineer and fluid dynamics of different configurations of CABG
2. Anatomy, physiology, and surgery for mitral valve disease; bioengineer and computational models resembling different surgical techniques of mitral valve repair
3. Ventricular assisting devices (physiology, surgery, bioengineer)
4. Cardiopulmonary bypass circuits (pathology-physiology, surgery, bioengineer, biochemistry)
5. Bioengineer of heart valve prostheses (biological and mechanical)
6. Patho-physiology and surgery of atrial fibrillation ablation; bioengineer of surgical ablation devices
