Learning outcomes

To provide a basic knowledge of epistemological and hermeneutic reflection on ethnographic research in anthropology by studying the principle analogical, dialogical and textual mechanisms involved in ethnographical analysis. Part of the programme will focus on the observer's reflexivity towards the study of racist behaviour.

Program

The basic principles of ethnographic methodology in anthropological terms will be presented. Particular emphasis will be placed on the study of racism anthropology in western and non-western contexts. Students will be asked to carry out individual and group ethnographic surveys on racist behaviour, which will be prepared, guided and discussed during the course.

Note
This programme is also valid for those students on the Master Degree Course in Philosophical Sciences who have decided to sit the exam for Cultural anthropology teaching (6 credits).

Examination Methods

a) Non-attending students will take an oral examination on the above texts;
b) Attending students will be able to choose from:
1) an oral examination on the above texts;
2) the presentation of a written report on texts agreed with the teacher and notes taken during lessons;
3) the production of a written report on the ethnographic investigations carried out on the types of racist behaviour dealt with in the lessons.
