Program

The ‘Sources for historical research’ module will start from the ways historical knowledge is built and from the concept of document, to illustrate, in relation to different historical periods as well as to different historiographic approaches, some types of sources and the challenges involved in their use. Sources for demographic, economic, social, gender, political, judicial, religious, intellectual and cultural history will be illustrated. Special attention will be paid to sources for oral history. The documentary value of images and objects will not be overlooked. As far as possible, we will also aim to invite experts to lectures and organise guided visits to libraries and archives. The list of the required reading is available on the Italian version of the web page.
At least part of the texts indicated will be made available on the course's moodle platform. Further bibliographical information will be provided in class and additional materials posted on the moodle, without constituting mandatory reading for the purpose of passing the exam.

Bibliography

Visualizza la bibliografia con Leganto, strumento che il Sistema Bibliotecario mette a disposizione per recuperare i testi in programma d'esame in modo semplice e innovativo.

Didactic methods

Frontal lessons possibly interspersed with others of a seminar nature. There will also be an invitation to lectures by experts and guided visits to archives and libraries. In some cases the lessons may include exercises.

Learning assessment procedures
